In a rapidly evolving business climate, Mexican boards are confronting a new era of governance—marked by regulatory complexity, technological disruption, and shifting societal expectations. As Mexico seeks to expand its global influence, boards are being challenged to move from passive oversight to active, forward-looking leadership.In an era marked by dynamic and rapid transformation, the landscape of corporate governance in Mexico is evolving. Boards are being called upon to navigate unprecedented challenges, ranging from the impact of global disruptions to the imperative of sustainable growth and innovation.

August Leadership engaged deeply with influential directors and business leaders across Mexico to uncover how boards are responding to mounting geopolitical uncertainty, the rise of digital innovation, and the increasing pressure to embed ESG and diversity in a way that is locally relevant and globally aligned.

Among the insights: 90% identified technology as a board-level concern, 100% emphasized the need for greater professionalization and board effectiveness, and 85% advocated for diversity as a value-driver—though many questioned the tools currently being used to achieve it.

This report presents the most critical themes shaping Mexico’s corporate governance landscape—from rethinking board composition and strategic engagement to navigating climate risks and fostering inclusive, resilient leadership. These findings are offered not only as a reflection of where Mexican boards stand today but as a catalyst for discussion, transformation, and long-term business success.

Chair, Board & CEO Practice, August Leadership
Mary Macleod leads August Leadership’s Board and CEO Practice globally. Joining from the Board and CEO Practice at Korn Ferry, she brings extensive experience, including Global Operations COO, Head of Management and Control for ABN AMRO investment bank and technology-led human performance consulting at Accenture. She also was elected as a UK Member of Parliament, advisor to Secretaries of State, and the Prime Minister’s small business Ambassador for London. More recently, she has been Chief Executive of The King’s responsible business network, collaborating with leaders to drive UK growth, sustainability, and social impact. As a widely published advocate for board diversity and female leadership, Mary has been appointed as Chair of the UK  Government’s Women’s Business Council to advise on policies for women’s progression in the workplace and represents the UK on the G20 Empower Alliance to improve women’s economic empowerment around the world.
